In this essay I’m going to talk about Shaun Tans graphic novel, The Arrival. In this book there are no words just pictures so its up to the reader to decide what’s  happening. My essay will explore the meaning of immigration in this book, also Shaun tan has written a lot about immigration. Himself being an Australian, Tan has written that Australian citizens usually think of refuges as a problem once they arrive and for this reason this is why the book was made and why he has made the main character a father who who leaves his family and home to go to another world or place which represents our world/city.

In the first image it shows many people and its to do with migration as there several people with different races from different countries to also show that migration is a common thing and shows the people the man has came across.

In the second image its linked to migration because it shows the things that someone would  take with them and usually the things a person takes are usually important to them as shown in the picture the images that are shown probably mean a lot or are very important to the man so that’s why he probably chosen  those items.

Should students be allowed to wear their own clothes in school?

I think students should be allowed to wear their own clothes in school because they should be able to express their freedom as long as the clothes they’re wearing is sensible.I also think that school uniform should be worn on ocations like: special or important visitors coming in to school,representing the school at an important event and other special occasions.

If someone’s uniform was to rip or get damaged instead of buying  new uniform,you could just get your own clothes to wear because you wouldn’t have to spend money on a new uniform. When you have many to choose from but ( has to be appropriate ).

If student’s were to wear their own clothes at school, like I said in the previous paragraphs, it’s not really a problem because they only need to think about two things, suitable and sensible. Not everyone likes the idea of wearing school uniform and having to always have your top button done up , so there should be an alternative and that should be wearing your own clothes.

Let’s say there’s been an incident at school for example a fight how would the teachers know who was fighting if we all have the same clothes, it would be much easier to spot the people by description if they weren’t all wearing the same  clothes, also wearing your own clothes defines who you are.
